Shadow And Bone (2021) Review

Shadow and Bone is based on Bardugo’s book, a YA fantasy that came out in 2012. The book spawned what’s known as the Grishaverse novels, which include the two sequels to Shadow and Bone, as well as two spin-off series—the Six of Crows duology and the King of Scars duology.

The main line is Dark forces conspire against orphan mapmaker Alina Starkov when she unleashes an extraordinary power that could change the fate of her war-torn world, but the show is not completely like the book, in the books, criminals Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, and Jesper Fahey do not appear in Shadow and Bone; their story is the center of the Six of Crows duology.

The first 4 episodes is gripping and was getting on to the track, from episode 5 there is an excellent boost in that gripping. If you are a fan of Grishaverse this is definitely a perfect adaption. The set, cinematography, character influence is all top notch.

Rather than explaining everything immediately, this show introduces the most important things needed for the storyline. From the incredible score to the gorgeous costumes to the best performanceThe cinematography is also top notch and the casting was well done, every actor and actress  portrays their role so well and really becomes the characters from the book. Another surprising thing is they matches the show with the book very well, when they released the information about the show being TV-MA it made most of the fans worried that the show would be more for kids but all went well.

From some part the CGI work was not impressing but it's like the same way most fantasy Netflix shows do. One of the biggest plus point is the viewers have got more time with most of the characters which is very important for any show to be richer in storyline. This might not be everyone's cup of tea, the show has potential but don't expect another GoT or Harry Potter, This show is really more a stand alone fantasy show which is worth for all ages to binge.
